3rd Grade Inventors at High Point

High Point third grade students became inventors by creating a compound machine to help make work easier. They needed to find a problem or a situation that needed to be improved. Once they identified the problem, the next step was to determine what kind of invention might solve the problem and if something already exists for that solution. The students could then create or remodel a compound machine to help fix the problem. Their compound machine needed to contain at least two simple machines. The simple machines could be a lever, an inclined plane, a wheel and axle, a screw, a pulley or a wedge.  The students showed very good problem solving skills and creativity with their inventions.
