Art + Math = A Really Cool Project

large_Image-1.jpg

4th Grade students at High Point Elementary School have been working on the math concepts of area and perimeter in.... Art Class! Students used their knowledge of how to calculate area and perimeter to draw a "bird's eye view" of the school building. Each portion of the school was divided up into various sized rectangles, of which the students had to calculate the area and perimeter. Additionally, they had to draw the playgrounds, parking lots, and other buildings around the campus. By using the program "Google Earth," the students were able to compare their drawings to the actual satellite image of the campus. A special thank you to 4th Grade math teachers Mrs. Walden and Mrs. Terry, and art teacher Mr. Cregger for putting together a beautifully integrated project!
