Second Grade created a pumpkin patch using tempera paint and oil pastels. The students composed their picture using various sizes of pumpkins. They painted the pumpkins first and then added oil pastels for texture and details. Their artwork is displayed in the Second Grade hallway.

Students from each first grade class were chosen to have the special opportunity to pick out a book from our book vending machine! 🎉📖
These students were selected because they have shown incredible grit, resilience, and dedication as they work toward becoming stronger readers. They have been reading impressive numbers of books and building some AMAZING word counts along the way! Their hard work, perseverance, and love of reading truly deserves to be celebrated. ❤️

1st grade is learning about Christopher Columbus during their Library class. The students enjoyed talking about his voyages.
We had an APPLE-solutely amazing time during our apple unit! Our Kindergarten friends made homemade applesauce, explored the life cycle of an apple, practiced measuring, taste-tested apples, and even used apples to paint! We love learning through hands-on activities and making learning FUN! 🍎❤️

Join us Friday, October 16, at 4 p.m. for a fun, hands-on STEM experience with Sonia Vanhook from the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.
Students will get to explore the LEGO Education Coding Express, a STEM kit designed to spark curiosity, creativity and early coding skills through hands-on play.

A great time was had last night at our Title 1 Family Night!
We are hoping to have our Holiday Sponsorship program this year if there is enough interest. If you are interested in becoming a High Point Holiday Helper and adopting a student in need for the upcoming holiday season please contact Amy Barr, School Counselor at 276-642-5605 or email her at amydavis@wcs.k12.va.us. If you are interested in receiving holiday help for your HPES student this year- stay tuned. If we are able to do the program this year those forms will go home in Tuesday folders on October 6.

HPES got Talent! So proud of our students who represented HPES at the Washington CO. Fair during the WCS talent show. Songs for talents were "Man in the Mirror" and "Never Enough." So proud of these HP students sharing their amazing talent at the fair! Way to go!
And then came the BIG moment… 🥧🏈😂To celebrate our students’ love of reading, the students in grades 1–5 who had read the most words earned the ultimate reward — PIEING A FOOTBALL PLAYER IN THE FACE! 🎉🥧 The smiles, laughter, and excitement were priceless!

Cardio Drumming PTO Night at HPES. Thank you to all our families, staff, and students for a great night of rhythms, music, and drumming. Our 4th graders have been working hard to come together for a wonderful energy packed show. A big thank you to WCS board for providing our schools with music and to Mrs. Lester, HPES music teacher for the lessons and creativity!
HPES Fourth grade students became geographers in their exploration of Virginia during the first few weeks of school. They used this knowledge to create a clay model of Virginia as they collaborated to combine their VA Studies and Art knowledge. Their clay models included key features of the five regions and the four major rivers. It was a wonderful way to put their new knowledge into practice.
Banjo the Service Dog made a visit to the Library with his owner Mr. Barns.
Mr. Barnes talked to the students about how having a service dog helps him, and some of the rules that apply to a service dog.
He also read the students a book he and his wife Dr. Barnes wrote about their journey.
